Excellent Reference and High Quality Book

The content is not only excellent, but the reason I buy books is to have a high quality reference with heavy paper, sharp print, color illustrations and something I want in my personal library. Electronic PDF's are good for a quick reference, but there is no substitute for a well-written, well-illustrated, high quality book for reading and ease of use. Highly recommended!

Cool book with pictures

One of the coolest things about the book is that it talks about the SAS making mistakes on the Iranian embassy in London and how they learned from them. Each chapter of the book focuses on a different part of a raid, like the planning process or the aftermath, and goes into a lot of detail. Overall, the book is really well-researched and well-written. It's organized chronologically, so it's easy to follow, and the chapters are structured really well with headings and subheadings. There are also a lot of maps, diagrams, and photographs to help understand what happened during the raids. This book is definitely worth checking out.

Book will save lives!

I brought this book before going into a course that included raids. I already had experience from years before as an 11b in Afghanistan but I was a private then and my memory was a bit rusty. So anyway, I read this book and it was freakin amazing!I used the section on horizontal scheme of maneuvers to set up a plan of action to attack a series of buildings. There were opfor in every damn building, but because my plan was rock solid we smoked all of the opfor without any casualties. I can’t say anything in this manual is groundbreaking because it's all the standard stuff that soldiers should learn. But that’s the kicker. Soldiers don’t learn it on their own! There were plenty of moments when I was reading where I thought, “huh, no shit” in a way that it was obvious when somebody wrote it down and yet I still didn’t know it before I read it. I had one of these moments when the book explains how important L Shapes are. Like, no shit flanking is important, but it didn’t really hit me how important and common the idea is that I could just apply flanking to everything! It's like basic should have been! And another area where this book really shines is in its coverage of CQB. Urban combat is becoming more and more common, especially for us Americans. And one of the things that I really appreciated about this manual is that it doesn't just focus on theory. It provides plenty of real-life examples from actual combat situations. Its like having a battle buddy who's already been in the thick of it.I highly recommend this book on small unit raids with no reservations. If you're about to do some mission planning, this book is an excellent product. As someone who has utilized the book's illustrations and SOPs to teach other soldiers, I believe this manual is crucial to reinforce their fundamental knowledge base. I have literally used this book to teach a bunch of useless Joes how to raid and make them into professional soldiers. If a captain ever says to you “im gonna take that building” this is the book to tell you how to ignore his advice and actually get shit done.
